Authorities in the secessionist South Ossetia region on Friday blocked Georgia's agriculture minister and a convoy of fertilizer that was to be delivered to farmers.

The blocking of the convoy underlined spiraling tensions between South Ossetia and the Georgian government, which rose sharply this week. South Ossetia has been de-facto independent since a 1992 truce ended separatist fighting.
