(Daily Texan) (U-WIRE) AUSTIN, Texas -- Spring is kitten season in Austin, Texas, and as the curious young animals begin to emerge in early summer, the city's shelters are overwhelmed.
In response, Town Lake Animal Center is partnering with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to declare June Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat month. This month, Town Lake Animal Center will reduce the regular adoption fee of cats from $75 to $20 to celebrate and encourage the adoption of cats in need.
This time of year, it is not uncommon for the center to receive as many as 50 cats a day, said Town Lake Animal Center Director Dornda Pulliam.
