It's a sad fact for some artists, that death becomes them as life never
did.

At the time of F.N. Souza's death in 2002, his work fetched moderate
prices, and his reputation had been eclipsed by other Indian painters, many
of who were his contemporaries.

The reassessment began within six months of his death. In London, the
Grosvenor Gallery's September 2002 exhibition 'Souza and Friends' put the
painter at the head of a group that included such iconic figures as M.F.
Husain and S.H. Raza.

Today, Souza is the only 20th century Indian painter who has been included
in the Tate Modern's permanent collection, and his paintings are priced at
the kind of levels the artist ...
