Denver Pow wow attendees get registered
DENVER - American Indians fought long and difficult battles to gain the
right to vote and their efforts should be honored, said Donna Langston,
volunteer urging American Indians to register to vote during the 30th
Annual Denver March Pow Wow.
"This is a right the elders fought for," said Langston, ethnic studies
professor at the University of Colorado at Denver.
"I trust their wisdom."
American Indians did not gain the right to vote until 1924. Even as late as
1989, tribal members were denied the right to vote in Montana. In other
