Hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, is an allergic response to pollen, mold or
other substances that can trigger symptoms of sneezing, runny nose and
itchy, watery eyes. In the springtime, pollinating trees are the usual
cause of hay fever. However, over the summer season, grasses and weeds are
the typical culprits and in the fall, ragweed is the common cause. From
late March until November, fungi releasing their spores into the air can
also cause hay fever. Agents that are present throughout the year, such as
dust mites, molds and animal dander (which can be found in common household
items such as pillows, draperies, thick carpeting and bedding) ...
