The New York-area Garifuna benefit concert - which took place last March 21
and featured traditional and modern Garifuna dances, music and food -
worked out well for the Garifuna community, reports Mirtha Colon of
Hondurenos Contra el SIDA, Inc./Hondurans Against AIDS. At least $1000 was
raised during the benefit, Colon, who was one of the primary organizers of
the cultural fundraiser, says. That money was enough to pay for five buses
full of people to attend an April 12 political rally in Tornabe, in Tela,
Honduras.
