Mexico City cuts pollution as border lags

WASHINGTON, Jun 22, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Mexico City -- a city notorious for its pungent smog and dense haze -- has taken another step to minimize pollution from some of the largest vehicles that chug through its maze of streets.

EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute's Center for Transport and the Environment, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Mexico City government, the Mexican Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, known as SEMARNAT, and the Center for Sustainable Transport in Mexico City announced Monday the launch of the Mexico City Diesel Retrofit Project.
