SA: Hicks essentially alone for past year at Guantanamo Bay

By Steve Larkin

ADELAIDE, June 30 AAP - In solitary confinement at Guantanamo Bay, David Hicks doesn't
know what month it is, or even what the weather is like outside his cell.

The Australian terror suspect has been held at the US military base in Cuba since January
2002, the past year spent alone.

Hicks is unable to mix with about 600 fellow detainees from 42 countries - including
Sydney father-of-four Mamdouh Habib - being held by the United States as 'enemy combatants'.

Hicks' Adelaide-based lawyer Stephen Kenny says he's uncertain why Hicks is been held
in solitary confinement.
