FOR gaming consoles, there are three prominent platforms - the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation PS2 and Microsoft Xbox.
* Sony PlayStation 2: When it first hit the market in March 2000 in Japan, it was a leap in technology. Besides playing standard digital versatile disc (DVD) movies, it was backward-compatible with games and peripherals of the first PlayStation.
The PS2 utilises a million instructions per second R3000 microprocessor, which is the same as its predecessor, and the console can also play in both vertical and horizontal orientations.
