Georgian police stopped a column of 10 Russian military trucks carrying Russian servicemen, missiles and other military equipment to the capital of the breakaway region of South Ossetia, which has requested union with Russia.

The Russian head of the interethnic peacekeeping contingent, Maj.-Gen. Svyatoslav Nabzdorov, said that the shipment stopped late Tuesday, which included 13 unguided missiles, had been approved by the joint control commission overseeing South Ossetia. The commission includes Georgian, Russian and South Ossetian representatives.
