Fed: Court threat backs new push to protect koala

CANBERRA, July 27 AAP - The federal government has been threatened with legal action
unless koalas are listed as a vulnerable species.

Failure to protect the national icon could result in it becoming extinct on Australia's
east coast in 15 years, says the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF).

The AKF tomorrow in Canberra will present new Environment Minister Ian Campbell with
a submission to declare the koala vulnerable.

The Brisbane-based foundation has threatened to take the government to court if it
