Mother of murdered 12-year old Elisabeth Brichet slammed French justice authorities Wednesday for not doing enough to prevent confessed serial killer Michel Fourniret from killing nine people, including her daughter.

Speaking publicly about the case for the first time, Brichet's mother, Marie-Noelle Bouzet, called on European governments to prevent repeat offenders like Fourniret from being released and allowed to commit new crimes.

"People allowed him (Fourniret) to murder. Those 'people' are the justice systems, as they operate now," Bouzet told reporters in the city of Namur, where she and her daughter once lived.
