Islamic party seen as threat to Russia

MOSCOW, Jul 29, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- A Russian newspaper says an Islamic party designated as a terrorist group by Russia's supreme court wants to set up a unified Islamic state in Central Asia.

The Moskovsky Komsomolets, in a recent sensational article "200 Days of Jihad," reported on the activities of Hizb-ut-Tahrir or HUT, which stands for the Islamic Party of Liberation.

Svetlana Meteleva, a special correspondent who wrote the article, claimed to be sharing her "insider" observations about the HUT activities, the Eurasia Daily Monitor reported Thursday.
