As the global trade agenda moves forward, India is far ahead in its
economic diplomacy and as a champion of the developing countries, while
"China's has been much more of a hedge," believes Professor Margaret M
Pearson.
Pearson, professor of government and politics at the University of
Maryland, whose current research includes China's integration into global
trade regimes and the emergence of China's regulatory state, said the most
clear-cut example of this was in Cancun, at the world trade talks, "where
India and Brazil were right up in front while China, even though among the
developing countries' bloc, was hedging."
