Why is dating wrong? Most parents of American-born or American-raised desi
teenagers struggle for a satisfactory answer to this question.

I was also frustrated with my parents' anti-dating stand. They seemed to
have no line of reasoning to support their stance.

But recently when I broke up with my boyfriend, who I had been seeing for a
year, I realized a few things. I really thought about what I - not my
parents - believed in and why my beliefs that made sense.

I also thought about the obvious holes in the American philosophy on
dating. For instance, it's a common belief one should date many partners
