For most Americans, the term "wine country" still means the birthplace of premium wine production in the United States, California's Napa Valley and neighboring Sonoma County.

Every year millions of tourists from across the nation clog the back roads of these two viticultural treasures in search of luxurious lodging, savory cuisine, and romance. The wines are important, of course, but it's the ambience that hooks visitors to Napa and Sonoma.
