King Norodom Sihanouk said Thursday he would stop threatening to abdicate, after the prime minister warned the issue was affecting the country's stability.
Sihanouk's remarks came a day after Prime Minister Hun Sen said the monarch cannot vacate the throne.
"I will stay silent, never talking or writing about abdication again," Sihanouk said in a statement released by his royal Cabinet.
On Wednesday, Hun Sen said there's no law allowing for abdication, and also warned that Cambodia could plunge into civil unrest if the king abandoned the throne.
