Hurricane Charley swirled past Jamaica on its way to the Cayman Islands and Cuba, bringing thunder, rain and winds Wednesday as hundreds of airline passengers were stranded.

Charley's winds were at 75 mph (120 kph) with higher gusts, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. At 5 p.m. (2100 GMT), Charley's center was located 85 miles (137 kilometers) southwest of Kingston, Jamaica.
