Hurricane Charley spun away from Jamaica Wednesday toward the Cayman Islands and Cuba, sending residents scurrying to supermarkets as black clouds set in along with thunder and rain.

Charley's winds were at 75 mph (120 kph) with higher gusts, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. At 8 p.m. (0000 GMT), the hurricane's center was located 250 miles (400 kilometers) southeast of George Town, Grand Cayman.
