Tropical Storm Earl churned over the southern Caribbean Sea on Monday after unleashing heavy rains and winds that toppled trees and tore off roofs in the eastern Caribbean.

No one was reported injured, but several hundred people fled their homes Sunday in low-lying areas of Grenada and moved to shelters set up in schools, said Sylvan McIntyre, chief of the island's emergency agency. Only two families remained Monday morning.

Earl had sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph) Monday morning as it advanced over the Caribbean.
