Hives revive garage rock

ANYONE WHO HASN'T heard of the Hives isn't likely to associate the band with popular acts like the Strokes and the White Stripes. And for a good reason. It took the Swedish band eight years to move from garage rock stalwarts to one of the trendiest bands of the early 2000s.
Unlike disposable furniture from Ikea - not so cheap, and, ultimately awful - the Hives have demonstrated that their craft has staying power. It must be something in the water, not wood, that has helped Swiss pop music - think yodelling, which goes beyond Abba and Roxette - cross international boundaries.
