Mary McConneloug's Olympic journey has already taken her from the mud of Maine to the courtrooms of Colorado. In Athens, she's hoping for a payoff. McConneloug's road to becoming the lone American mountain biker in the Athens Games was a muddled, rough affair.
USA Cycling originally named Sue Haywood to the team, saying she beat McConneloug by 14 points in a yearlong qualification for the lone spot.
