Clergymen discuss where the church has been, is, and where they think it's
heading

The Black church has changed significantly over the past few decades. There
was a time when the preachers were the politicians and the pastors were the
community leaders, as seen with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rev. Joseph
Echols Lowery.

The face of the Black church has obviously metamorphosed. Some question
whether it has been for the better or for the worse. "The Black church had
to change," said Elder Lionel Rush, pastor and community activist. "Now in
