ORLANDO -- Today is the fifth anniversary of significant milestones for
Florida's statewide electronic prepaid toll program SunPass Sales have
increased A whopping 3429 percent since this date in 1999 when only 40,581
SunPass transponders were affixed to the windshields of cars driving one of
the most heavily traveled highway systems in America, Florida's Turnpike.
On June 30, there are 1,432,174 transponders in circulation, half a million
of those sold since last summer alone.
What happened last summer had never been done before. SunPass electronic
transponders were made available in retail outlets throughout the state.
