When the triple forces of Brooklyn Academy of Music, MetroTech and the
Atlantic Center Mall converged upon downtown Brooklyn with plans for
revitalization, the merchants of Fulton Street looked on with something
less than hope.

Brooklyn Academy of Music's show-goers and culture hounds should have
brought fresh foot traffic onto Fulton Street, but the spillover never
happened. Audiences were not drawn into the neighborhoods surrounding the
