This week, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors discussed the fact that
70 percent of the girls in Juvenile Hall are African American.
Too often young women who get on the wrong track don't get the attention or
services that routinely go to males, according to Lateefah Simon, executive
director of the Center for Young Women's Development in San Francisco, who
attended the hearing.
Simon is the driving force behind the innovative and impacting program that
guides troubled girls from delinquency and poverty to healthy and
productive adulthoods.
