1948 S. Korean security law challenged

SEOUL, Sep 07, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Song Du-yul, a South Korea-born dissident who returned home last year after 36 years of self-imposed exile in Germany, was arrested and sentenced to seven years in jail in March on charges of violating South Korea's National Security Law, which bans unauthorized links with rival North Korea.

He visited North Korea 18 times and wrote a dozen letters of loyalty to its leader, Kim Jong Il. Song was also accused of serving as a senior member of the Communist Workers' Party of North Korea, the South's main enemy stipulated by the anti-communist law.
