The legendary treasure chamber of the baroque palace of August the Strong _ filled with 18th century artifacts from copper etchings to gold-filigreed ornaments _ is again on view to visitors at the palace, 62 years after it was moved for protection during World War II.
The opening of the Green Vault in the palace, still being rebuilt after its destruction by Allied bombing in 1945, was celebrated with a ceremony in Dresden's renowned Semper Opera house Tuesday.
"There won't be another day like today again," said Martin Roth, the general director of the state of Saxony's art collection.
