Vic: Bracks under pressure to ban smoking in pubs, clubs

MELBOURNE, Sept 7 AAP - Victoria's Liberal opposition today upped the ante on anti-smoking
laws, pledging to ban smoking in pubs and clubs if elected.
Opposition health spokesman David Davis committed a future Liberal government to outlawing
smoking in all indoor venues, with the caveat that it would have to be a carefully staged
process.
The challenge to the Victorian government came as Queensland's government became the
first in Australia to ban smoking on beaches, playgrounds and public building entrances
from January, and all licensed premises from July 1.
