BRAINERD, MN -- Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport will receive $5.1
million in federal grants to finish its second runway and improve safety,
U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta announced today.
"Minnesota's airports play a crucial role in connecting communities to
the growing economy," Secretary Mineta said. "We're investing in this airport
because we want Brainerd to be able to soar with the economy."
The grants will be used for the second phase of construction on a new,
6,500-foot air carrier runway. This runway will enhance reliability of
service when wind conditions prohibit use of the primary runway.
