A top war crimes fugitive is not in Serbia, despite claims to the contrary by United Nations war crimes prosecutors, and police are searching for another suspect who recently went into hiding, Serbia's police chief said Friday.

Reiterating the Serbian government's stand, Interior Minister Dragan Jocic said that the former Bosnian Serb military commander, Gen. Ratko Mladic, is not hiding in the republic.

"As far as Ratko Mladic is concerned, according to police and military intelligence reports, it can be said that he is not in Serbia," Jocic told reporters.
