MOST Americans are probably unfamiliar with Frank Thomas, the Disney animator who died last week at age 92, but they are no doubt familiar with his work. He created so many unforgettable characters and scenes over four decades with the company that it's hard to know where to begin.

With his longtime creative partner, Ollie Johnson, and seven other artists, Mr. Thomas helped redefine the art of animation from the 1930s to the 1970s. Every classic Disney animated movie had their magic touch: "Cinderella," "Snow White," "Pinocchio," "Bambi," and "The Jungle Book."
