Newly promoted Messina upset defending champion AC Milan 2-1 at San Siro, while Juventus continued its perfect start to the season and remained alone atop the standings after a full slate of Serie A matches Wednesday.

Playing in the top division for the first time in 39 years, Messina won courtesy of Riccardo Zampagna's diving header in the 59th minute off a perfect cross from defender Alessandro Parisi, whose nickname is the "Roberto Carlos of the Straight," after the Straight of Messina.

Zampagna also kicked in the winning shot in a 4-3 win against AS Roma on Sunday.
