The host team opens strong Friday when world No.6 Carlos Moya takes on Paul-Henri Mathieu in the first match of the semifinal tie. Then world No.12 Juan Carlos Ferrero faces Fabrice Santoro.
On Saturday, rising stars Tommy Robredo and Rafael Nadal are pitted against veterans Michael Llodra and Santoro, world ranked No.5 in doubles and France's best hope for a point in the Davis Cup tie being played outdoors on red clay in a converted bull ring.
