The European Union should favor countries of "European culture," like Ukraine and Moldava, in its expansion plans before considering membership for Turkey, a senior official of the Italian Roman Catholic Bishops Conference said Tuesday.

Many Europeans have raised questions about letting Turkey become the bloc's first predominantly Muslim member.
