Ask Curtis Martin to pick one of the most important additions to the New York Jets this season, and he has a quick answer: left guard Pete Kendall.

The nine-year veteran signed with the Jets during training camp after the Arizona Cardinals released him, and he has paid immediate dividends. Not only has he helped open big holes for Martin on the ground, he has made the offensive line a unit of strength.

"When he showed up and started playing the way he was, everyone was pleasantly surprised," center Kevin Mawae said. "Where we're at right now is a byproduct of that."
