Each year across American Polonia, individuals and organizations observe
the anniversary of Poland's Constitution of May 3, 1791. The second-oldest
constitution in the free world (the United States' is the oldest), it was
forged by the same humanistic and democratic thought that yielded the
French and American constitutions. It established three branches of
government, and guaranteed rule by majority, the secret ballot, and freedom
and liberty for all people.
