Mountain rescue teams in Scotland are expected to receive a much-
needed boost to their annual operational costs tomorrow, when the
First Minister announces details of a "significant" funding package.
Jack McConnell will make the announcement when he meets members of
the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team during a visit to Ballater as part
of a day of events in the northeast.
The funding represents a recognition by the Executive of growing
unrest among Scotland's busiest mountain rescue teams as their
budgets, which already barely cover running costs and equipment, are
being spread ever thinner with the introduction of national parks
covering Loch Lomond and the Cairngorms.
