Ofcom bosses have moved to reassure members of the media sector
that a promise to be a "light touch" regulator will not sacrifice
Scottish content in favour of economic market interests.
The last of Ofcom's roadshow consultation meetings on its action
plan for the coming year highlighted fears over the future of
regional programming in light of the ongoing public service broadcast
review and speculation that SMG and the newly consolidated ITV could
be takeover targets.
The executive team at Ofcom, which oversees the media and
telecommunications industries, has pledged to have a "bias against
intervention," prompting the belief by some that the public could
ultimately lose out.
