His gravestone has already become faded by the Hebridean elements
and there was a risk that the number of visitors paying their
respects at the graveside of John Smith was risking the collapse of
the ancient and historical churchyard on the island of Iona. Today,
next to the lairs where Scottish kings were once taken to be buried,
the widow, daughters, friends and former colleagues of John Smith
will gather to pay their respects. It is 10 years next Wednesday
since his sudden, shocking death.
The former Labour leader and Lanarkshire MP died of a heart attack
