WHEN he was three he wanted to be John Travolta. When he was five
he loved Showaddywaddy, and had the quiff to match. The day he got
his GSCE results (and they were awful, according to his mum), he got
the offer to join Take That. Fourteen years later, Robbie Williams is
one of the biggest British solo artists ever. Two years ago, he
signed a deal reputedly worth (pounds) 80 million which tied him to
his label, EMI; last year, his two sold-out shows at Knebworth broke
all records for crowd numbers in Britain. To date, he's racked up
over 20 million record sales in Britain alone, duetted with Nicole
Kidman and since he quit Take That in 1995, he's been a staple of the
tabloid gossip pages.
