FOUR children and six adults were dramatically rescued yesterday when the lift they were in at the troubled Glasgow Science Centre tower broke down leaving them trapped 165ft from the ground for several hours.

The lift, which runs up the side of the 416ft landmark, ground to a halt at 3.30pm after a cable snapped on the underside of the lift, triggering the emergency brake system.

Hugh Clay from Lancaster, who is visiting friends in Edinburgh, was one of the passengers trapped inside the lift.

He said: "We were worried about the kids - we played games and they wrote on the windows because it was very hot and stuffy in there.
