In 1960, architect Melita Rodeck was hired by a real estate
company to renovate an old three-story house only minutes away from
the heart of the District and its best-known monuments.
"The work was going on as I designed, and the house became
prettier and prettier," Rodeck said, "so I decided to buy it
myself."
Rodeck still lives in the Foggy Bottom house, a pale yellow
turn-of-the-century treasure in a park-like setting where the trees
are now bursting with pink and white blossoms.
She has remained in the neighborhood more than three decades
