AMSTERDAM, March 5 (Reuters)--Dutch central bank chief Nout Wellink cannot be considered protectionist for criticizing a British hedge fund for suggesting that ABN Amro should be broken up, the Dutch banking association said on Monday.

"Financial institutions must be distinguished from other companies," Hein Blocks, chief of the Dutch Banking Association (NVB), told reporters at the publication of the group's annual data. "There must also be considerations to protect consumers."
