The special reading of Zakhor, Deuteronomy 25:17-19, is read on
Shabbat, March 15 The archetype of Amalek is surely among the most
powerful and persistent in the Jewish imagination. It is rooted, in
part, in three verses, Deuteronomy 25:17-19: "Remember what Amalek
did to you by the way, when you were coming out of Egypt. How he met
you by the way, and smote the hindmost of you, all that were feeble
in your rear, when you were faint and weary, and he feared not God.
Therefore, it shall be when the Lord your God has given you rest
from all your enemies round about, in the land which the Lord thy
God gives you ... that you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek
from under the ...
