E Yorks: A second Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) could be flying by
spring after a flood of donations.
About pounds250,000 has been raised for the organisation since Top
Gear presenter Richard Hammond suffered a brain injury in a jet-
powered car at Elvington Airfield, near Pocklington.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance flew Mr Hammond, who is now recovering at
home, to hospital after the accident in September.
The money raised so far will enable the service to lease an air
ambulance for a year and continued fundraising will ensure it can be
bought if it proves to be the right model for them.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity chief executive Martin Eede said
car enthusiasts had started the ball rolling.
