Money raised through Race For Life helps fund the crucial work of
Cancer Research UK.
Last year, pounds315,000 was raised through Race For Life in Hull,
with pounds143,000 raised in the East Riding.
Money from the charity helped fund a ground-breaking four-year
study into how relaxation therapy and guided imagery can help men and
women with bowel cancer.
The pounds440,000 study, named Psychoneuroimmunological Effects Of
Relaxation Therapy And Guided Imagery, or PERI, started in 2002 and
was supplemented by local funding from Hull.
Guided imagery teaches patients to imagine white blood cells
attacking the cancer and patients are encouraged to develop their own
positive images.
