Beverley's John Wells, now based at Cherry Burton, will go to St Annes Old Links later this month for the 72-hole first stage European Tour School qualifier buoyed by a tremendous victory in the PGA North Region's Leeds Cup at Leeds Golf Club's Cobble Hall course.

"I have produced some good performances recently, and the win was long overdue," said 29-year-old Wells, who pocketed pounds3,000 for his effort - and a little extra for his fourth in the pro-am.

"My long game was not too good over the first 36 holes, but I scrambled well.
