Article: Report calls for need to define free personal care costs

The need to clearly define what makes up the costs of free personal care were highlighted in a report yesterday.

A study by academics at Stirling University warned of a "lack of clarity" on how the costs of the policy were calculated, which made it difficult to predict costs and to decide what information should be gathered.

It finds that issues such as the cost of assessments, the effects of changing care patterns and improvements to quality need to be examined more closely.

The report also observes that the bill for the policy has risen since it was introduced four years ago, from pounds107million to pounds153million, and is estimated to reach pounds227million by 2022.
