Article: Firefighters to launch new scheme for asthma sufferers

A Service that quickly identifies asthma sufferers at risk from fire will be launched in Aberdeen on Monday.

Grampian Fire and Rescue Service has been working with Asthma Support in Rural Scotland (Asirus) for two years to help its members during an emergency through the Grid Reference Identification Project (Grip).

Smoke can seriously affect an asthma sufferer and may make communications impossible for them should they ever make an emergency call. The idea behind the project is they only need to quote their unique reference number, or even just call 999 from the registered phone number, if they find themselves in an emergency situation.
